Earlier this month, Jun Hong Loh claimed first place at the Gisborne International Music Festival in New Zealand. The 25 year-old violinist from Singapore received a cash prize of $9000, as well as a solo engagement with Orchestra Wellington. One of the jurors at the December 5th competition referred to Hong’s piece as “poetic and soulful”.
Welsh Theatre Company Develops Translation App
The Welsh-speaking theatre company, Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru, is giving audiences who don’t speak Welsh an opportunity to enjoy their productions via their new app. The translation app, called Sibrwd, will allow viewers who speak English to listen through headphones to translated speech, or if they prefer, receive the dialogue via text message on any smart device.
The company has said that during some productions up to 20 percent of the audience was using Sibrwd. Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru has been using the app, which was specially designed for them, in all of their performances since May.
Elephant Parade
December 1, 2015 is the start of the elephant parade in Bangkok, Thailand. Rudolph, the Christmas elephant created by Studio Chiang Mai, is leading the herd of 88 elephants with his bright red nose. This herd of 88 brightly colored elephants trumpeted into Bangkok for the largest open air art exhibition ever seen in Thailand.
The elephant parade has teamed up with the Anantara Hotels, Resorts and Spas and The Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation. The Foundation was set up in 2006 “to improve the plight of Thailand’s elephants, and has since been diversified to include welfare projects that incorporate broader philanthropic and cultural objectives with unprecedented success,” as it says on their website http://www.anantara.com/golden-triangle-asian-elephant-foundation/
